Round 3 PhD Grant Winners Announced!

We are delighted to announce the recipients of the Rudolf Agricola PhD Grants for the third round of 2024: Yang Wang, Jesper Beverdam and Jie Ouyang.
These exceptional researchers are working on diverse and impactful projects focused on sustainable development, which are detailed below. We look forward to following their progress and celebrating their achievements.
Yang Wang
This research tackles global challenges at the intersection of energy, inequality, and poverty, focusing on SDGs 1 (No Poverty), 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities). It explores energy use disparities, the energy needed for human development, and the socio-economic impacts of transitioning to renewable energy. The goal is to advance a fair, sustainable, and inclusive energy future.
Jesper Beverdam
This research explores using private funds for nature restoration via novel financial tools. Through the Greenmapper Friends platform, the study investigates whether bottom-up funding from nature enthusiasts can support biodiversity and local conservation projects, with a focus on Texel. The goal is to develop sustainable, community-driven funding mechanisms for nature conservation.
Jie Ouyang
This research examines how EU consumer law can support sustainable consumption by addressing overconsumption’s environmental and social impacts. It aims to balance consumer protection, human rights, and ecological sustainability, offering solutions to align legal frameworks with sustainable development goals.
