An Agricola fellow is a teacher or researcher at any career stage at the University of Groningen (with the exception of a select few External Fellows) who is motivated to engage in interdisciplinary research or education relating to sustainable development. Fellows align with and actively contribute to the mission of the Rudolf Agricola School through education, research and/or science valorisation. As part of the community, Fellows are connected to one or more research themes and have the opportunity to join existing research groups or initiate new ones.

Being a Fellow brings with it the following benefits and opportunities:

• Being part of a community by joining a diverse network of researchers across disciplines and engaging with societal stakeholders, through invitations to meetings and events, and opportunities to participate in projects and consortia initiated by the School. The Fellowship also provides the preferred pathway to join the School’s research groups.

• Accessing support and opportunities through the range of services offered by the Rudolf Agricola School, including consortium building, event organisation, research and educational project development, exploring funding opportunities, and assistance with science valorisation, science communication, and impact journalism.

• Increasing professional visibility by being featured on the School’s website with a picture and affiliation, and by using the RAS affiliation in professional communications.

Fellows are expected to contribute to the activities of the Rudolf Agricola School. This may include:

• Attending meetings or events organised by the School and/or its research groups

• Contributing to research, educational activities, science valorisation communications, and events

• Sharing relevant research outputs, expertise, or updates through the School's website, newsletter and/or social media, as well as interacting with the content published by other Fellows and the School

• Supporting the visibility and further development of the School’s research themes, research groups, and further networks

The Rudolf Agricola School also has a limited number of External Fellows. Unlike Internal Fellows, External Fellows are not affiliated with the University of Groningen. They are invited to join the Rudolf Agricola School based on their specific expertise, existing ties with the School, and/or active collaboration.

You may be eligible to become an External Fellow if you are:

• Affiliated with a partner institution of the University of Groningen

• A former Fellow who is no longer affiliated with the University of Groningen but is now affiliated with another institution

• Affiliated with another institution, but regularly collaborate with Internal Fellows, have strong links with the Rudolf Agricola School, and/or have been recommended by one or more Internal Fellows

External Fellows are typically invited by the team, but individuals who are interested are also welcome to express their interest via the registration form or by emailing agricola rug.nl. In all cases, approval by the Rudolf Agricola School team is required.

It is expected for External Fellows to play an active role within the RAS and to be able to meet the expectations set for all our Fellows despite in their case not being affiliated with RUG.

PhD candidates are also eligible to become Agricola Fellows! We warmly invite you to sign up through the same registration form used by all Fellows.

In addition to the general benefits of fellowship, all PhD Fellows automatically become part of a dedicated PhD Community, which offers activities and opportunities specifically designed to support and connect PhD candidates working on sustainable development.
