Recap InfraCARE kick-off Workshop

11 May 2026

On 16-17 April 2026, InfraCARE held its kick-off workshop in Groningen, NL, where members from partner universities met to exchange ideas and formulate the outline of a framing article, one of the key outcomes of the project.

During the workshop, in sessions led by the Groningen team, interdisciplinary approaches to the structure and nature of urban infrastructure were brainstormed as well as conceptualising the way in which transformation occurs and is stimulated. The need for a shared vocabulary was identified, along with the importance of recognising the normative and gendered values inherent in the framing of ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ infrastructure.

The workshop ended with the coordination and further planning of the upcoming methodology workshop in Galway, Ireland, that will articulate the methods applied in the project and further develop the key framing article. This workshop will be attended by around 25 people, as each partner university will also bring along early-career researchers.
