De Waardevolle Stad: een imaginaire routekaart en Filosofeer door in het Concerthuis
What is the role of city life in a democracy? Can a building contain justice? Does a traffic light have moral value? And isn’t it time for Groningen to have its own ‘city thinker’?
On Friday 6 November, join us for two connected sessions on the values of city life!
4.00 p.m. - 4.30 p.m. | De Waardevolle Stad: een imaginaire routekaart
Forum Groningen, Publiekstribune
In this fun, interactive session (“The Valuable City: an imaginary roadmap”), we present an imaginary roadmap about values and city life. Philosophers from the University of Groningen give short pitches on the themes of this year’s lectures, followed by a conversation with the audience. The roadmap is the follow-up to the philosophical lecture series De Waardevolle Stad, held earlier this year. It was created by the Cities research group of the Rudolf Agricola School and the Kenniscentrum Filosofie of the University of Groningen, together with Wijkmakers, illustrator Tsjisse Talsma, and writer and philosopher Stijn Hospers. 4.45 p.m. - 5.30 p.m. | Filosofeer door in het Concerthuis - After Talk & Concept Launch
Concerthuis, upper hall
In this aftertalk (“Keep philosophising”), we continue the conversation after the launch of the map. In an interactive panel discussion, we launch the idea of a ‘city thinker’ (Stadsdenker) for Groningen. Isn’t it time for Groningen to have its own thinker? And what kind of profile and agenda should that role entail? We look forward to thinking along with you!
