About UGP

University of Groningen Press (UGP) is an open access publisher. We provide a publishing platform for journals, books, open textbooks inaugural lectures by teachers and researchers working at or with the University of Groningen. The open access publishing model enables any interested reader around the world to find and access the information.

University of Groningen Press was founded in 2017 at the University of Groningen Library.

All of our publications are available free of charge to anyone, and accessible through open access publishing. We aim to provide authors with the widest possible dissemination so that researchers around the world can find and access the information they need without any costs. UGP uses the open-source publishing platforms of PKP and Pressbooks.

Our services

Our services

Publishing a book, starting a new journal, or digitizing an existing one, requires customization. We can help you through the process and, if necessary, offer workflow consultancy. Our aim is to support editors and authors associated with the University of Groningen.

We can offer you:

  • Support in setting up a new journal and setting up the management structure
  • Flipping your journal to open access
  • Support in publishing a book or series
  • Technical management of the platform and technical support
  • Helpdesk function
  • Hosting of the journal
  • Copyright advice
  • Instructions for using the platform

Guidelines from The Committee on Publication Ethics

We follow guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure ethical editing and publishing. We believe that the control of publishing should be maintained by researchers themselves.

University of Groningen Press team

University of Groningen Press is operated by the University of Groningen Library. The editorial board assesses the suitability of a publishing project and makes the final decision to accept or reject a publishing proposal, as well as focusing on strategic planning.  The editorial team provides editorial and technical assistance for the publication of the journals and books.

UGP works closely with LINE UP boek en media bv to ensure an efficient and effective production process for books. Together with the publisher Uitgeverij kleine Uil we ensure maximum exposure through bookstores.
