The Portable Profession

Duration: 14 hours (in 7 weeks).
Studyload: 2 classroom hours and 2 hours of independent study each week.
Audience: The Portable Profession is for the accompanying spouse, the ones who find themselves continually on the move.

'There are thousands of “trailing spouses” in the world today, and that there are some important implications associated with “trailing,” makes this phenomenon an important one to describe. While every story is unique, many of the issues I struggled with – identity loss, not knowing how to fit in a craft a new life … – are “universals” for many accompanying spouses.'

- Trailing: A Memoir by Kirsten Louise Duncombe

Does your mobile life style clash with your career goals? Do you have the feeling that you need to pack up your suitcases (again) just as things are picking up with your work?

When your partner’s job requires you to move regularly, it is necessary that you, too, have a career that can move with you. In The Portable Profession we explore the critical factors that influence the possible mobility of your current position. And, if your current position is not as mobile as you would like, we look at further possibilities. We explore the characteristics of mobile professions and go in search of surprise and inspiration. There are many possibilities available for those who have learned to understand the Portable Profession.

And, when it is, once again, time to pack the suitcases, just pack your profession as well!
