Business Valuation for Legal & Tax Professionals
Valuation is never merely an exercise in arithmetic. Litigators must be able to interrogate and challenge valuation reports in the context of disputes; M&A lawyers negotiate price and warranty clauses without always grasping the underlying financial rationale; and transfer pricing specialists must translate valuation methodologies into arm's-length pricing between related parties.
In each case, a critical bridge is missing — the one connecting financial theory to legal and fiscal practice — leaving professionals exposed to flawed advice and weakly substantiated positions. The University of Groningen developed a compact value course for legal & tax professionals to connect these three disciplines.
Upon completion of this course, participants will have mastered the core principles of business valuation — including discounted cash flow analysis, market multiples, and the cost of capital — and will be equipped to critically assess valuation reports, advise more effectively on transactions and disputes, and construct more robust valuation arguments for clients, counterparties, and tax authorities alike. The course bridges three disciplines that, in practice, too often operate in isolation despite sharing a common financial language.
