New UGP publication: A Nobel Prize born in Groningen: Albert Szent-Györgyi
University of Groningen Press (UGP) has published a book Een Nobelprijs geboren in Groningen: Albert Szent-Györgyi (1893 – 1986) (A Nobel Prize born in Groningen: Albert Szent-Györgyi [1893 - 1986]) written by Erik Drücker.
Hungarian scientist Albert Szent-Györgyi won the Nobel Prize in Physiology of Medicine in 1937 for his discovery of vitamin C and research on cell respiration. This success makes him a national hero in his homeland to this day. However, in Groningen, where he laid the foundation for his great discoveries, he is less well-known.
In this book, the author describes Albert's eventful life. A life full of war and controversy, but also humor and of course a life filled with science.
Erik Dücker, the author, is a historian of science and guest researcher at the University Museum Groningen. His expertise is the history of the natural sciences.
