Spanish Test

Students, prospective students and researchers who need to take a Spanish language test for a grant, grant application, degree programme, research or internship abroad can test their proficiency level at the University of Groningen Language Centre.

The Language Centre has designed its own tests with the results conforming to the scales defined by the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) . Before you register for the test, please check with the relevant university or organization that our test will be sufficient proof of your level of that particular language.

We would like to emphasize that these proficiency tests are not the same as official language exams. We would like to refer to ALTE, the Association of Language Testers in Europe for an overview of the official language exams. ALTE published a framework of all the different language exams at different levels of the CEFR that meet the requirements of ALTE’s quality standards.

Test format

The complete test covers all 4 skills:

  • speaking
  • listening
  • writing
  • reading

You can take this Spanish test at level A2, B1 or B2. After registration, you will receive notification from the Language Centre to make an appointment to take the test.

Certificate

You will receive 3 copies of the certificate within a week of the test. You can collect the certificates at our Support Office desk during opening hours.

Test results

The test results reveal the level of the candidate in each of the skills tested. The results are expressed in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference. The scale definitions range from A1 (basic user) to C2 (proficient user). There is a definition of the scales on the certificate. This test thus does not involve passing or failing; the relevant university or organization determines which level is required for the degree programme or project. If necessary, you can take the test again after 3 months.
