About the lecture

"Beyond ChatGPT: How Generative AI is Reshaping Financial Control"

Traditional machine learning (ML) helped us predict and detect patterns. Generative AI lets us have conversations with our data, automatically draft management reports, and translate complex financial analysis into explanations for stakeholders.

In this PE session, we'll explore what this means for controllers: automated narrative reporting that actually makes sense, AI assistants that can walk through variance analysis step-by-step, and natural language interfaces that let non-finance teams query financial data without building reports.

We'll also get real about the risks - when AI gets creative with numbers (hallucinations), how to maintain audit trails, and why “human in the loop” matters more than ever. Plus, we'll look beyond today's chatbots to emerging AI agents that could handle entire month-end processes.

Through hands-on examples and group discussions, you'll leave with a practical framework for evaluating generative AI tools and a clear sense of where this technology could genuinely improve your team's work - versus where it's still too risky to trust.

About the speaker

Dr. Sasan Mansouri currently holds the position of Assistant Professor of Accounting and serves as the AI/Digitalization theme coordinator at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen and a fellow at the Jantina Tammes School of Digital Society, Technology and AI. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany, and is a research affiliate with the IWH Halle Institute for Economic Research, contributing to the Data Science in Financial Economics research group.

Dr. Mansouri has authored papers in notable journals such as Management Science and the Journal of Business Venturing. His research mainly explores the application of Artificial Intelligence in accounting and finance, particularly focusing on the impact of information intermediaries like financial analysts and business media. Additionally, he has experience as a lead data scientist and has consulted with AI-related startups. In his teaching, Dr. Mansouri specializes in data analytics and natural language processing applications in finance and accounting.
