Springer Nature OA deal momentarily suspended until end of 2018

18 December 2018

According to the agreement between Springer Nature and VSNU (The Association of Universities in the Netherlands), Dutch corresponding authors were allowed to publish up to 2,080 open access articles without additional article processing charges (APC) in 2018.

As of 11 December 2018, the national quota of 2,080 publications has been reached and the deal is currently suspended until 1 January 2019. This means that publications from Dutch universities will no longer be eligible for free open access publication for the remainder of 2018. As of 1 January 2019, Dutch corresponding authors will be able to use the new allocation of OA articles.

Authors whose manuscripts enter the MyPublication process between 11 December 2018 and 1 January 2019 can choose to publish via the traditional subscription model (closed access) or open access, but in the latter case they will have to arrange individual APC payment (€ 2,200 per article). If you wish to discuss the available options or if you have any questions email us at openaccess rug.nl (UG-authors) and openaccess umcg.nl (UMCG-authors).

VSNU, in collaboration with the Dutch University Libraries (UKB), will investigate how this undesirable situation can be prevented in the future.
