Language Centre Language courses Practical information

Registration and payment

Would you like to know more about which course is the best choice for you, how you can register, and how you can pay for your course? Read on and you will learn all the answers here!

Target group

Our courses are suitable for people aged 18 and over. Although most courses are suitable for everyone interested, we also offer courses to specific target groups, such as people who are going through the civic integration process, professionals, and students. We indicate the target group for each course.

Available courses

You can register for a course via our web shop. The web shop contains an overview of available courses, timetables, and a registration feature, as well as an overview of available places and registration deadlines for each course. You will usually be able to register until 14 or 7 days before the start of course.

Payment options

You will be asked to pay upon registration. Payment can be made via iDeal or by credit card, or using one of the following payment guarantees:

Internal payment for UG staff

If you are a UG staff member and your faculty or service unit pays for the course, please log in to our web shop via SURFconext using your UG account. You will then be given the option to pay using an internal centre code.

Funding from UG for Dutch courses for international UG students (full-time), PhD students, and postdocs

Log in to our web shop via SURFconext using your UG account. You will now be able to register for Dutch courses free of charge, provided you qualify for funding and still have sufficient vouchers. PhD students and postdocs who use the 30% facility must pay their own share of the course fee directly via iDeal or by credit card.

If no registration option for a free or partially funded course on behalf of the Board of the University appears when you log in, this means that you are not a member of the target group, or that you have already used up your course funding.

No S number yet? Questions about the 30% facility?

  • Students – if you have registered for a degree programme at the UG via Studielink, but you have not yet received a student number, please contact the Student Information & Administration (SIA).
  • PhD students and postdocs – the 30% facility is only available to PhD students and postdocs with an employment contract. Please contact the HR department of your faculty for more information about the fiscal 30% facility.
Payment guarantee for UMCG staff

If you are a UMCG staff member and you would like to pay using a centre code, please log in to our web shop via SURFconext using your UMCG account. You will then be given the option to pay using a UMCG centre code.

DUO loan for civic integration candidates

The Language Centre has held the Blik Op Werk quality label since 2014. This means that you can pay for your Dutch course in preparation for the civic integration examination or the State Examination in Dutch as a Second Language (NT2) with a loan from the Education Executive Agency (DUO: Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs).

Important

  • A DUO loan allows you to take 2 courses per quarter for a maximum of €2,000. We will charge DUO for the total amount at the end of the course. Make sure there is enough money available from your quarterly limit at that time. If there is not enough money available, then you will have to pay the full amount yourself.
  • You can use your DUO loan as long as you have not yet passed your civic integration examination or NT2 State Examination. If you want to use your DUO loan for a course, you should therefore not take any exams until after you have completed the course.

How to pay using a DUO loan

  1. When registering, check the box to indicate that you will be following the course in preparation for the civic integration examination or the State Examination in Dutch as a Second Language.
  2. Complete the questionnaire and indicate that you will be using your DUO loan to pay for the course.
  3. Upload a scan of the letter in which DUO approved your loan. For all future courses that you register for, you must present a photocopy or scan of the most recent overview of your DUO loan.
  4. Before the start of the course, you will receive a digital course contract that you must sign. This contract sets out the conditions of your course programme, drawn up in accordance with the requirements set by Blik op Werk.
  5. At the end of the course, DUO will make an invoice available in your DUO account, which you will have to approve online. The Language Centre will notify you of this per email.
Funding from municipality for civic integration candidates

You can pay for a Dutch course at the Language Centre in preparation for the civic integration examination or the State Examination in Dutch as a Second Language with help from your local municipality. This is only possible if you fall under the scope of the Civic Integration Act 2021 (Wi2021), if you have a Civic Integration and Participation Plan (PIP, Plan Inburgering en Participatie), and if you have been given permission by your contact person at the municipality to take part in a course at the Language Centre.

The registration consists of the following steps:

  1. Visit the website www.inburgeren.nl/en for more information about the integration process.
  2. Go to the top of this page for information about the intake.
  3. Did you get the recommendation to take a course at the Language Centre? Ask your municipality to send an email to talencentrum rug.nl stating that they will pay for the course. This email should include:
    - Your name
    - Your email address
    - The name of your municipality
    - Which learning path you’re following (B1 path or educational path)
    - Your civic integration candidacy type (asylee, family migrant, or someone who voluntarily chooses to follow the civic integration process)
  4. As soon as we have processed the above information from your municipality, you will receive an email. You can then register for a course. When you register, please indicate that you will be taking the course as part of your civic integration process and fill in the form. Choose your municipality as the payment option.

  5. Once you have registered, please email your full PIP to talencentrum@rug.nl.

  6. If your municipality is no longer able to cover the cost of your courses with us, the municipality has to notify us about this. We will then discontinue the option of taking courses at the municipality's expense.

Note: Civic integration candidates who are not asylum status holders will receive a digital contract ahead of the course, which should be signed at least one week before the start of the course. This contract details the conditions of the course, which have been drafted according to the demands of the Blik op Werk quality standard. If the contract has not been signed on time, you will not be able to participate in the course.

More information about the course will be sent to you via email in the week before the course starts. Your municipality will receive our invoice shortly after the start of the course.
