Jane Mahoney Interview

Jane Mahoney has been working as an on-call English teacher at the Language Centre since early 2015. She enjoys teaching the English for Presentations course, General English Skills courses, Law Program Writing and Oral Skills courses, Intercultural Communication and English and, Presentations Skills with English. She recently taught an Intercultural Communication and English Skills course for participants from the CIT department with concerns about improving their communication skills. Jane explains that “the major goal was to provide Intercultural and English skills tools to be used in their CIT services, but focus courses are needed to address overall English improvement. The participants attended workshops where awareness of intercultural differences were interwoven into the writing, grammar, vocabulary, and speaking skills. A two-hour follow-up session for each group was held a month later, with intentions to see how the attendees applied their knowledge”.

Jane is very enthusiastic about working for the Language Centre, “I enjoy teaching, discovering new techniques, opportunities to use existing technology and integrate new uses for other technology in the classroom. In the future I hope to continue to help develop the General English Skills section, help improve the evaluation system for the student-assigned papers of the different faculties and, most of all, help develop and implement digital literacy instruction and advance the use of various and different types of e-learning modules”.
