Privacy & Data Protection

Research projects often involve human subjects. With the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in 2018, researchers must build compliance with the GDPR into their research plan.

Data protection is not just about security. The GDPR emphasizes the importance of transparency and the freedom and rights of individual research subjects.

In this section, you can find more information about the meaning of GDPR in research, some examples of high-risk research scenarios, necessary data protection measures, the relation between GDPR and ethics and information about ethics procedures in founding applications.

The DCC offers support on:

  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/AVG)
  • Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA)
  • Reusing sensitive data (secondary use)
  • Technical and organizational measures to handle personal data correctly
