Lustrum: making connections
Lustrum: making connections Making connections

Making connections and the UG

'Making Connections' is the theme of our lustrum and also happens to be the strategic plan of the University of Groningen. The focus is on maintaining existing connections and making new ones. Connections with and between our many talented employees and students, and with knowledge partners, societal parties, local businesses, with the region and the rest of the world. And above all: internal connections across disciplines.

The lustrum is an excellent moment to give this extra substance and emphasis. Events include lectures, exhibitions, theatre performances and sports activities, which are ideal for spontaneous encounters. Moreover, the lustrum offers opportunities to welcome  Stadjers (inhabitants of the city of Groningen), Ommelanders (inhabitants of the Groningen region) and alumni. Successful collaborations from the University of the North or the Schools will be given a greater stage during various public activities. Furthermore, during the Festival of Imagination, we will showcase our contributions to society in all their glory. Through all these events, the lustrum in honour of our 410th anniversary brings people closer together!

Lustrum Logo

Our logo was designed by Vera Post.

Most people know her from the illustrations she did for the big Groninger Cat book.

The idea behind the concept is derived from serpetines. Festive strips of paper in different colors that often intertwine. A festive representation of making connections and links with different people, countries, disciplines. This idea is combined with the shape of the shield from the RUG logo.

The image can be applied in many different ways. For example, it also works well as a pattern. This creates a kind of 'road network' which nicely represent the different roads you can take as a student, alumni and employee of the RUG.
