FAQ

University Translation and Correction Service (UVC)
What services do you offer?

We offer translation, sworn translation, two editing options (language editing and substantive editing), and subtitling. Upon request, we can also arrange interpreting services and live translation services. We work with English, Dutch, German, French, and Spanish. If you are interested in a service that is not listed here, you can always contact us and we can see if we are able to help you.

How do you assure quality?

All of the end products that we deliver will have gone through two rounds. This means that the translation/correction/other service was initially carried out by one of our linguists and then checked in a quality control round by one of our in-house team members. This quality control round ensures accuracy as well as consistency with similar and previous texts. At the UG, this ensures that all UG texts that we produce use the same terminology and style, for example. We also strive to ensure that one of the two rounds is conducted by a native or near-native speaker of the target language, to ensure fluency and a natural tone.

Is the second round included in the price?

Yes, the second round for all jobs is included in the price as it is part of our standard working method.

I have an inquiry regarding a language not listed on your website; can you still help?

Either way, feel free to send us a message and tell us more about your requirements. Depending on the language combination, we may be able to refer you to someone in our network.

I need the service to be completed as soon as possible. Is this possible and are there extra costs involved?

We may be able to complete your translation, editing, or subtitling project within a tight time frame. Please feel free to send us a message with the project details and the desired delivery date, and we will let you know what we can do. In some cases, a rush fee of 30% may apply.

What sworn translations do you offer and what do they involve?

Sworn translations are carried out by linguists who are enlisted in the Dutch register of sworn interpreters and translators (Rbtv). The translation receives an official stamp and signature from the translator, and the original document is attached to the translation. We can send you the translation digitally and by post.

This is the first time I am going to make use of your service. How should I go about it?

Feel free to send us a message with the file(s) you would like us to work on, the service requested, and useful information, such as the desired deadline, language (variation), preferred terms or style, and any instructions.

Can you also translate/edit images for us?

Yes, we can translate the content by creating a bilingual table. However, we will not be able to edit the image as we do not work with Photoshop or other graphic editing software. We can of course edit the content by first creating a Word document containing the text of the image.

What document types are you able to work with?

We can work with most common document types, such as Word documents, PDF files, PowerPoints, Excel sheets. If you would like us to edit a text, the most suitable document type is Word because we can use the Track Changes and Comments features to make sure you remain in full control of the content of your text.

In addition, for subtitling we would like to receive a video that is set to 25 frames per second. We can work with most, if not all, video file extensions as well.

Is your question not listed here? Then contact us so we can be of service!
