Discount schemes

Some target groups qualify for discounts on the course fees. Here is an overview of our discount schemes and who qualifies for them.

Price groups

Three different price groups apply to our courses. Each course page lists the applicable prices for the course in question. If you qualify for the student or discount rate, please log in to our web shop via SURFconext using your organization account to activate this rate.

Student rate

For Bachelor’s and Master’s students, exchange students, and PhD scholarship students of the following institutions:

Discount rate

For staff members of the following institutions:

One-off discount schemes

Dual-Career Support discount

If you are a member of Dual-Career Support, you are eligible for a one-off €75 discount on your Dutch course. This discount applies to general group courses in Dutch up to level B1 and conversation courses up to level A2. Please contact Dual-Career Support via dualcareer@rug.nl to request this one-off discount.

Discount for partners of guest researchers at CEASG & GSG

Partners of guest researchers at East Asian Studies (CEASG) or Globalisation Studies (GSG) can follow one Dutch or English course at the Language Centre free of charge. This offer applies to general Dutch group courses, Dutch conversation courses up to level A2, and general English group courses. Please contact GSG (gsg@rug.nl) or CEASG (ceasg@rug.nl) to request this one-off discount.

Dutch courses paid for by the University of Groningen

International students, PhD students and postdocs at the University of Groningen are being offered Dutch courses at the Language Centre by the Board of the University of Groningen.

The University of Groningen pays partly or wholly for the following Dutch courses, up to a total of 5 vouchers per person. A course equals 1 voucher, unless indicated otherwise:

For whom?

Course costs fully paid for by the University for:

University of Groningen Bachelor’s and Master’s students
University of Groningen PhD students who are NOT using the 30% tax facility
University of Groningen Postdocs who are NOT using the 30% tax facility

Course costs partly paid for by the University for:

University of Groningen PhD students who are using the 30% tax facility.
University of Groningen Postdocs who are making use of the 30% tax facility.

Course costs not paid for by the University for:

Exchange students are not eligible for a course paid for by the University. They can however register on their own costs for a Dutch course for University of Groningen students and staff or for a standard Dutch group courses.
University of Groningen staff members other than PhD students and postdocs can not register for a Dutch course for University of Groningen students, PhDs' and postdocs. They can however register for a standard Dutch group course. They can also apply for an intake for a tailor-made course, which is designed according to your personal wishes and precise objectives. In some cases the standard Dutch group courses or tailor-made courses are paid for by the Faculty. This internal page of the UG explains exactly which reimbursements are possible for UG staff.
