Gerrit Krol Award – essay competition

Win back your tuition fee with the Gerrit Krol Award!

Is your essay the best Dutch-language essay on ‘inclusiveness’? If so, you could be the winner of the Gerrit Krol Award! In 2019, the University of Groningen celebrates its 405th anniversary. For this festive occasion, the University of Groningen Language Centre and the Faculty of Arts have jointly established the Gerrit Krol Award.

Students from all universities in Dutch-speaking regions are invited to submit their essays of up to 2,000 words in Dutch. An expert jury will decide which submissions will be nominated for the award. The jury consists of Ellen Deckwitz , Ellen Krol (Gerrit Krol’s daughter) and Ronald Ohlsen . The criteria are originality, stylistic ingenuity, and a talent for entertainment. One condition is that the essay must not have been published elsewhere.

The winner will be announced during the UG Lustrum Event on Wednesday 12 June. The award comprises a monetary prize of € 2,000 and publication of the essay on literary weblog Tzum .

Essays of no more than 2,000 words can be submitted until 3 May 2019 via gerrit.krolprijs rug.nl. Substantive questions can also be sent to this address. Please submit your essay as a PDF file.
