Datum:09 januari 2026

Artificial Intelligence is no longer science fiction; it’s rapidly becoming the engine behind major breakthroughs in healthcare, climate solutions, business innovation and even the way we learn and create. But as this technology evolves, so do the ethical, social and political questions surrounding it. Will AI help us solve the greatest challenges of our time, or will it create entirely new ones?

In the upcoming semester, you have the opportunity to explore these questions as part of the third edition of the Learning Community “AI, Innovation & Society.” Through a series of inspiring lectures and interactive workshops, you’ll engage with experts from both academia and industry who are shaping the future of AI. You'll not only explore the impact of AI on society, but also examine your own role and responsibility in this fast-moving field.

What makes this LC unique is the hands-on component: you’ll work in a multidisciplinary team on a real-world AI assignment for a company. This allows you to apply your knowledge directly and gain a deeper understanding of how AI can be used today and where it may take us tomorrow.

Following the success of previous editions (see here), we're excited to once again invite students to this Learning Community. Are you ready to shape the future with AI? Students from the Univeristy of Groningen and Hanze can enroll for this program following the enrollment link at the end of this page.

Implications of AI in Society

Artificial Intelligence is shaping the world around us; from the way we work and communicate to how decisions are made in law, healthcare and public policy. But who gets to shape AI? And how do we ensure that innovation remains inclusive, ethical and socially responsible?

In the Learning Community AI, Innovation & Society, you’ll explore the opportunities and risks of AI in today’s world, while collaborating directly with real companies on real challenges. After a series of interesting workshops on topics like AI consultancy, ethics or entrepreneurship, you’ll join a multidisciplinary project team. Each team consists of students from across faculties: law, business, AI, arts, technical studies and beyond. You’ll combine your diverse perspectives to work on an assignment provided by a real-life use case from one of the participating companies.

You’ll operate like a consultancy team:
• tackle a real-world AI challenge
• conduct analysis, research and ideation
• co-create solutions that matter to both the company and society

We use a structured team selection method to ensure balance in skills and background, and you’ll receive tools to monitor your team’s development throughout the project. It’s a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of AI while expanding your network and developing cross-disciplinary skills.

What you’ll do:

• Work on AI-related challenges provided by public and private organizations.
• Follow lectures and workshops on the developments in artificial intelligence.
• Team up with students from diverse academic backgrounds.
• Meet and learn from professors, researchers and entrepreneurs.
• Discover your own strengths and explore career opportunities in the AI ecosystem.

This Learning Community is all about bridging disciplines and sectors. Whether you're studying law, business, or engineering; your perspective matters. We carefully assemble multidisciplinary teams to ensure a rich mix of knowledge, experience and insight.
