Additional deal with PLOS

The University of Groningen and the University Medical Centre Groningen have signed a new addition to the existing agreement with PLOS for two extra journals:

• PLOS Aging and Health

• PLOS Ecosystems.

UMCG-authors receive a 50% discount on article processing fees and a 100% discount if NWO or ZonMW are listed as project funders on the article. Note: if your primary affiliation is the UMCG, please read this information carefully.

In addition, an existing agreement has been extended:

• Expert Medicine Collection: 16 hybrid and 9 open access journals (currently published by Taylor & Francis)

Update on contract negotiations with the American Chemical Society (ACS) 

The final phase of contract negotiations with ACS is proving difficult. ACS is currently unable to commit to making publications that appear before the contract is concluded retroactively open access as of January 2026. 

Our advice: for the time being, do not publish via the ACS direct open access route, but make use of the Taverne agreement (internal link).
