Frontrunners Coalition for a Healthy Netherlands Launch
On 26 November, the Frontrunners Coalition for a Healthy Netherlands will be officially launched in Groningen, in partnership with the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health. This national movement, initiated by the Samenwerkende GezondheidsFondsen (SGF), brings together dozens of organizations committed to reversing the rise in chronic illness and creating longer, healthier lives for all.
Across the country, more and more organizations are expressing serious concern about the growing burden of chronic disease. While people are living longer, the number of years spent in poor health continues to rise at an alarming rate. Last year, health funds called on partners nationwide to accelerate the transition toward a healthier Netherlands, as described in their manifesto.
Now, dozens of organizations, including 23 health funds, the Voedingscentrum, the Beweegalliantie, the Noaber Foundation, and Health~Holland, have joined this movement. The message is clear: change isn’t happening fast enough. We will no longer wait for politics, we choose action. By uniting strong national organizations with powerful local initiatives, we can make real progress together.
The kick-off in Groningen is made possible by the Municipality of Groningen, the National Program Groningen, the Province of Groningen, the Agreement of Groningen, and Region Groningen-Assen.
The event marks not an end, but the beginning of a national movement, a broad coalition of organizations and citizens working together for a healthier future. Because health and prosperity go hand in hand.
On 25 November, the evening before the launch, Aletta will host an inspiration dinner for leaders and decision-makers to spark new ideas and connections.
At Aletta, we firmly believe in the power of science, policy, and practice working together. This coalition perfectly aligns with our mission: to make health visible, achievable, and accessible for every citizen in the Netherlands.
