Extra opening hours for the University Library (UB) during the examination period: 14 March to 8 April 2026. During this period, the UB will only be accessible to students and staff of the University of Groningen. Hanze students will not have access during these periods.
The University Library (UB) and the Medical Library have become supporting members of OpenAlex, a free-to-use, open database that provides access to over 480 million scholarly publications across all disciplines. This step underscores the University of Groningen’s (UG) commitment to open science and aligns with the intentions of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information.
CERN has been selected to host a new phase of Open Research Europe (ORE), supported by a new funding consortium of European national funding agencies and research organizations, among which NWO. With NWO joining ORE, this will mean that the platform will be available as a publication channel for researchers affiliated with a Dutch research organisation, regardless of whether they have an NWO grant or not.

Discover more than 14,000 printed dissertations from the University of Groningen from the period 1614-2013. These are now available via SmartCat. Search by author or chronologically, and find works by historical researchers such as Aletta Jacobs and Antonius Deusing. The new Library Guide ‘Catalogue Dissertationum Universitatis Groninganae (1614-2013)’ will help you with this.
