Access and library card
All visitors (UG internal and external) need to present their access cards at the access gates at all times when entering and exiting the building. Please note that this may cause some inconvenience.

Work places
All study places in the UB City Centre are freely accessible, with the exception of the UG-only periods. In these weeks surrounding the exam periods you must reserve a study place in the UB City Centre upfront (you need your UG or Hanze student number for this).
Please note: in UG-only periods the UB City Centre is accessible for students and staff of the University of Groningen only, see: Exam periods: UG-only weeks.

Staff
UG staff have a personal University card. The University card can be used to borrow books from all UG libraries. The University card can also be used for interlibrary loans.
Former staff
f your are leaving the RUG due to retirement you have the option to keep your RUG account. With this, you retain access to electronic databases, journals and e-books.
Also, you can get a free library card for borrowing books from the UB. Borrowing books from other libraries is possible at the ILL rate for 'Other borrowers'
Please note: you will have to extend your account yourself every year.
Please choose: (Pre-)pension or accorded emeritus status (annually)
N.B. This only applies to former staff as mentioned above; not for staff leaving the UG for other reasons!
Alumni
Alumni can purchase a UB subscription. This costs € 45 a year - one month period of notice. Or you can choose to combine your UB card with a subscription to the Public Library.
With this subscription you can borrow books and enter the building. It does not include off-campus access to the UG’s electronic files, journals and e-books. Those are only accessible within the UG network.
Other visitors
Other visitors, see: UB per user group
(e.g. non-UG visitors, companies, secondary school pupils)
