The successful opening of the Groningen Digital Business Centre (GDBC)

On Wednesday 4 April FEB hosted the official opening of the Groningen Digital Business Centre (GDBC). The event was an opportunity to introduce the GDBC to entrepreneurs from the city and its surroundings and UG staff and students. This was done through a variety of talks, lectures and lively discussions led by chairman of the day, Aize Bouma.
The Groningen Digital Business Centre (GDBC) is a new knowledge center that focuses on the development, sharing, and transfer of knowledge in the field of digital business and data analytics. A place where innovation and research into digital entrepreneurship is stimulated. Science and business come together within the GDBC to develop knowledge and the opportunity to share it with others. This makes the GDBC the scientific, digital hotbed of Groningen, where (young) professionals are trained and prepared for a job in the digital sector.
The event was a great success. It was well attended and the audience really seemed to enjoy themselves. Even with this in mind, the team know that this is only the beginning. Project leader and Managing Director of the GDBC, Bas Baalmans summed it up perfectly: “Right, now the opening is over, we can really get started!”.
Bas has started his programme which currently consists of three projects: 1) Student Match making, 2) Knowledge and research and 3) Education programme. In all three projects UG staff and local entrepreneurs are project members.
