Student Organizations & Alcohol – What Works?

The Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health, Stichting Door Het Geluid (DHG) and the Municipality of Groningen invite you to the conference “Student Organizations & Alcohol: What Works?” on Monday morning, 9 March 2026. The conference will take place from 09:00 to 13:30 at the House of Connections in Groningen.

This conference brings together student board members, confidential advisors, members of wellbeing committees, researchers and policymakers to explore how student organizations can promote responsible alcohol use. Key topics include legislation and regulations, prevention strategies, organizational culture, and the role and responsibility of student boards.

The programme includes:

  • a plenary opening with Roelien Kamminga, the Mayor of Groningen;

  • interactive workshops focused on practical experiences and effective approaches;

  • a lecture by researcher Luc Hagenaars on the impact of Pouring Rights Contracts between student associations and beer producers.

The conference offers practical insights, exchange of experiences, and inspiration for policies that align with the culture and daily practice of student organizations.
