Title: Doing health geography: well-being, mobility and attachment to place in later life
Topic: In this seminar, Louise Meijering will talk about her career in health geography. Her work is interdisciplinary at the intersection of geography, gerontology and public health, focusing on well-being in relation to place, mobility and identity in later life. She will discuss her three key-contributions to the field, which include: 1) Insights into the multi-dimensionality of well-being in later life; 2) A novel perspective on place and identity after stroke; and 3) A new approach to studying outdoor mobility of older adults, based on a mixed-methods study consisting of GPS tracking, travel diaries and in-depth interviews. Furthermore, she will present her new ERC-funded project, called Meaningful Mobility. Through the Meaningful Mobility project, Louise aims to develop and employ an integrative approach to explain mobility practices in later life in relation to well-being. Besides talking about her contributions to the field in terms of contents, Louise will also reflect on her career trajectory, which is unconventional. In so doing, she will share the turning points in her career, both positive and negative. Her story illustrates that there are multiple ways of 'doing health geography', or public health research, in a successful way.
