Add press/media items

  • One of the press/media items automatically imported by Meltwater has two (or more) media contributions from the same news source; they have the same title and date. Why? What can I do?

A news source may publish twice (or more) the same news, for example, after a slight change in the text. That may lead to a change in the URL. If that happens on the same day, Meltwater will capture both news items, and Pure will import them in the same template.

If the content of the two media contributions is identical, you may delete one of them. Remember to save the information before closing the template.

  • Why aren't the press/media items immediately visible in the UG research portal?

As a precaution we decided to make the press/media items not visible in the UG research portal until they have been checked by you or by the support staff.
If you want to make the news items visible, you can change the visibility from Backend to Public and modify the Status from Entry in Progress to For Approval, so the press/media editor of your faculty/institute is aware that you have checked the information.

  • Why do the press/media items have to be approved? Who can approve them and who can make them visible?

The approval of the press/media items  guarantees that the items  are correct and that they may be used in reports, evaluations or other analyses.

You can check the information imported in your Pure profile (Does the news belong to you? Do you want to add more information such as description or relation with other research outputs?). You may also decide whether or not you want to make the Press/Media item visible in the UG research portal (changing the visibility from Backend to Public).

When you are done please modify the Status from Entry in Progress to For Approval so the press/media editor of your faculty/institute is aware that you have checked the information.
In some faculties/institutes the press/media editor may decide about the visibility of the Press/Media items. If you want to know more please contact your Pure coordinator.

  • I appeared in the news but I don’t see it on my Pure profile. Why not?

    Please consider the following:
    • The system will import into Pure only news from online sources. Newspapers with only print versions are not included.
    • The system will find news only if the name of the researcher AND the University of Groningen or UMCG or Aletta Jacobs School or Campus Fryslân or RUG/Campus Fryslân or Lifelines are mentioned. The University of Groningen may be named in several languages. In case of video or audio recordings this information has to be written on the webpage, for example as a caption. (If the names are in the video frame they are not captured).
    • If in your Faculty there is another researcher with your same name and surname it is possible the item is imported in his/her Pure profile.
If none of this applies, please contact pure rug.nl.
  • How do I get a notification that a new press/media item has been imported?

To be regularly informed about the news items imported in your profile, set the notifications options: Email or Task. The last one is visible only when you login to Pure.

    How to do that?

Please check your notification settings: Login to Pure > click the arrow below the P-number (on the top right of the screen)> select Email settings or Task settings
    • Email notifications: Select press/media > Workflow: Entry in Progress (recommended options: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly), click Save.
    • Task notifications: Select press/media > Workflow: Entry in Progress > tick the box Show tasks, click Save.
For more information please consult: Step-by-Step: User Guide for imported Press/Media.
  • A press/media item belonging to a colleague who has the same surname has been added to my profile. Can I delete this?

The new items are imported based on the name match. If two users have the same name, the items are imported in the Pure profile of the first user in the list.
    Please contact your Pure coordinator.
  • I see news in Pure from a source that is not relevant. Is it possible to exclude that source?

Yes, this is possible. Please send your request to pure rug.nl. The Pure team, in consultation with the Central Communication department, will evaluate your request.
  • Which sources are used to import press/media items in Pure?

The news items are imported by Meltwater, a media monitor provider that covers more than 300.000 online sources in 125 countries. The list of their sources is constantly updated, so we don’t have a list to share with you. If you are interested in a specific source or if you are in doubt whether a source is included or not, please contact pure rug.nl and we will check this for you.
  • How can I delete imported news items from my Pure profile?

If you want to delete an imported news item: open the items in Pure and click on the red X on the right bottom corner. Please note that the red X may not be immediately visible, the X is visible the day after importing.

For more information, consult: Step-by-Step: User Guide for imported Press/Media.
  • Can I add an external organization to my press/media items?

You can add an external organization, but you cannot remove the internal affiliation.
  • Didn't find an answer?
