‘Open up to open access’ campaign

Aleman

To draw attention to open access, a VSNU (Association of Universities in the Netherlands) campaign started earlier this year. The campaign ‘Open up to open access’ aims to encourage academics to publish their articles open access. The University of Groningen (UG) considers open access to be extremely important and is therefore participating in this initiative.

Posters and slides featuring UG researchers and their quotes were used in the campaign and a national Journal Browser was launched. The campaign will continue during the international Open Access Week, which will take place from 23 to 29 October 2017.

Publishing articles open access has many advantages. It makes them easier to find, thus expanding their reach and increasing the number of citations. In addition, the UG considers it important that research results are made freely available to the general public, so that the public can access high-quality information.

The UG believes that joining the ‘Open up to open access’ campaign will draw academics’ attention to the possibilities of open access and encourage its use. Since 1 January 2017, the UG has offered its researchers the opportunity to make their output available in open access via the   ‘green route’ .

The following leading academics are participating in the campaign:

Adriaan Wierenga (Faculty of Law)
André Aleman ( Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences / Faculty of Medical Sciences)
Hedderick van Rijn ( Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences)
Katja Loos (Faculty of Science and Engineering)
Kocku von Stuckrad (Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies)
Marcel Broersma (Faculty of Arts)
Maria Antoinetta Loi (Faculty of Science and Engineering)
Robert Inklaar (Faculty of Economics and Business)
Sierdjan Koster (Faculty of Spatial Sciences)
