How can we give public space a human touch?

This question inspired the idea of the Michi-Noeki: a unique, accessible community meeting place. In the Oosterparkwijk, the Michi-Noeki has long been seen as a great success - and now we can support that with scientific evidence.

We warmly invite you to an inspiring and in-depth event about the Michi-Noeki. During the session, we will share practical experiences, present the latest research findings from the University of Groningen (RUG), and discuss the role and impact of the Michi-Noeki in the neighbourhood. Moderator Gijs Nillissen is known for his energy and sharp questions and will make sure we have a lively and engaging programme.

Guests include:
  • Sander van Lanen (RUG), Assistant Professor of Urban Poverty and Inequality

  • Louise Meijering (RUG), Professor of Health Geography
Both have conducted research on the Michi-Noeki.

  • Miranda Dontje (WerkPro), the driving force behind the everyday practice of the Michi-Noeki

  • Two volunteers, who will share their personal experiences and what the Michi-Noeki means to them

  • Frank Brander, Programme Manager for Area-Based Work, Municipality of Oldambt, involved in implementing and securing the Michi-Noeki within the neighbourhood

  • Irene Edzes, architect at Vollmer & Partners and the original creator of the Michi-Noeki concept

After the plenary programme, there will be time to reflect and continue the conversation together.

This event is organized in collaboration with the University of Groningen (RUG), Vollmer & Partners, WerkPro, and the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health.
