I must confess that I am not one to make decisions easily or lightly, and when the time came to choose my bachelors’ degree, that was no different. During my high school years I realized that I was interested in many things, but, for my own distress, I did not like any of those subjects enough for a full career path to be chosen based on it. It became clear that the best way would be to choose a multidisciplinary field, where I could use that knowledge to hopefully improve something in society. That was the reason why I chose to study criminology, a field that gives a look into law, psychology, biology, and much more. After those three years at the University of Minho, in the great and hilly city of Braga, a slightly bigger bump came on to my road: what comes next?

Choosing to study Governance and Law in Digital Society, was, again, not a lightly made decision. However, after seeing the great curriculum and thinking about all the amazing opportunities studying at the Campus Fryslân would provide, it all became apparent. This master really prioritizes the sharing of knowledge of all relevant areas of the evermore relevant digital domain of society, which will make us well-rounded professionals, ready to face the many challenges we already observe. Living and studying in Leeuwarden turned out to be amazing. I personally really enjoy the coziness and warmth the city offers, without never losing its personality. The countryside and urban contrast make it so diverse, beautiful, and serene, that I find almost impossible to feel out of place
here.

During my, still very short, time as a student here I have had the opportunity to work on very interesting essays. My highlight would be the one on “Cryptocurrency Regulation in Financial Markets”, for our course of Supervision and Enforcement in Digital Society. The paper brought to light some of the current questions in regulating cryptocurrencies, particularly when there are conceptual, legal, and technical challenges facing it. Writing the paper not only allowed me, on a personal level, to fully discover my productivity and management skills, but to acquire a lot of knowledge about a topic so relevant in the current global landscape about which I knew so little. Studying Governance and Law in Digital Society at Campus Fryslân was not an easy decision, but it was a great one, after all.
