IMChip awarded SNN VIA subsidy to advance brain-inspired chip technology

IMChip, a spin-off company from the University of Groningen and closely connected to CogniGron, has been awarded the SNN VIA subsidy from the Just Transition Fund through the VIA Groningen 2021–27 Noord-Nederland and RIS3 2021–27 programmes, managed by Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland (SNN).

The funding will support IMChip’s project SIMS-AI, which focuses on developing scalable cleanroom processes for manufacturing brain-inspired chips — hardware designed to emulate the efficiency and adaptability of the human brain.

By enabling more energy-efficient and sustainable AI systems, IMChip’s work directly contributes to the region’s ambitions for a green and innovative digital future. The project represents a significant step towards transforming cutting-edge neuromorphic research into real-world applications that could revolutionise computing and AI hardware.
