Update Research Output Program 2020

01 May 2020

Update April 2020

By Ben Eefting, project leader

As almost all the other employees at the UB and RUG, the project team is working from home because of COVID-19. With daily startup calls we keep in good contact and we keep in good progress, although face-to-face meeting is missed. The challenge will be to organize the user group meetings digitally in a proper way and to stay in good contact with our stakeholders.

The state of affairs of the Work Packages (WP):

WP1 Pure Evaluation.

All the interviews at the faculties and institutes are done. We thank all the participants for their cooperation. We received valuable feedback, which will be analyzed and developed in other work packages.

We are working on the evaluation report now, which will be presented to the Steering Committee, Faculty Boards and Regieorgaan Pure.

WP2 Stakeholders and User Groups.

We formed the User Groups and had good response on our survey to gauge the interest of the participants. We will start with the remote User Group meetings in the coming weeks.

The User Groups are: Portal, Award Management Module, Funding Support, PressMedia in Pure, Pure data on external websites, Pure data supporting administrative processes.

If you’re not in a User Group yet, but you’re interested after reading this: let us know on b.eefting rug.nl!

WP3 Optimizing the use of Pure.

This work package consists of several subjects to improve the use of Pure.

Importing PressMedia expressions from Meltwater into Pure is in testing phase.

We are working with the ICPE institute to get the Pure data of the involved researchers on their website.

We are running a pilot with Elsevier for importing datasets into Pure.

Pure in administrative processes, such as R&D is in startup phase.

WP4 New Portal.

We are working on the selection of a new portal for Pure. The report on this will be ready 1st of June. In May the User Group meeting regarding the Pure portal will be organized. A demo environment of the new Pure Portal is available.

WP5 Funding and Grant Support.

We have set up a pilot environment of the Award Management Module of Pure. This module can support researchers in getting funding (grants) for their research and supports them in the workflow to receive the actual grants. We are setting up a pilot with UMCG and FSE. More faculties are welcome to join the pilot. Let us know if you’re interested: b.eefting rug.nl.

Update 12 December 2019

The University Library has identified the Faculties' needs and priorities regarding Pure and proposed the 2020 Research Output program as a result of this process.

The Research Output 2020 (RO2020) program started with the appointment of project manager Ben Eefting on 1 September 2019. Based on the preliminary project plan that has already been drawn up, the goals and approach of the program have been determined and recorded in a Project Initiation Document (PID). This PID is the basis for further implementation.

The activities are subdivided into so-called work packages.

  • Work package 1: Evaluation of the use of Pure
  • Work package 2: Stakeholders & User Groups
  • Work package 3: Optimization use of Pure
  • Work package 4: New Pure Portal
  • Work package 5: Funding Support
Participants Faculties, UMCG and UB

The project initiation document  will be offered for approval in the steering committee of 19 December. The steering group includes representatives from the faculties of the RUG, UMCG and UB. Participants are:

  • Prof. M.J.E.C. (Marc) van der Maarel (chairman) - Director Graduate School of Science & Engineering
  • Drs. N. (Nienke) Bastiaans: Portfolio Holder Resources & Director Operations, Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies
  • Dr. B.W.A. (Barry) van der Strate, Head of Research Office, Faculty of Medical Sciences / UMCG

  • Drs. M (Marjolein) Nieboer, Director of the University Library
  • Drs. ME. (Marijke) Folgering-van der Vliet, (advisor), Teamlead Pure, University Library
