About us University College Groningen Education Exchange (Study Abroad) Incoming students

Courses

The University College of Groningen is a faculty of Groningen University that offers courses in a Bachelor’s Degree programme. The Academic Year of UCG is divided into a fall Semester 1: (Block 1 and Block 2) and spring Semester 2: (Block 3 and Block 4).

Semester 1 takes place from September to February and Semester 2 from February to mid-July.

Important information

Exchange students are eligible to enroll in any of the courses offered at University College Groningen. 50% of a student’s courses must be taken at UCG and the other 50% can be requested at one of the other ten faculties under Groningen University (some limitations may apply).

Workload

Exchange students should enroll in 2-3 courses per block, which equals 10-15 ECTS per block. A semester of study at UCG would be equivalent to 30 ECTS. One ECTS equals 28 hours of study including class time, assignments, exams, etc. (Unless the home university allows less credits).

All of our courses offered to incoming Exchange students can be found through the course catalogue.

To see how courses you are interested in fit into a schedule, please visit our schedule generator.

Enrolment

Upon receiving the student’s formal application through Mobility Online, the UCG International Office will start the enrolment of courses via our course request form (provided to students outside MO). Some courses will be subject to pre-requisites or capacity. Exchange students are given the same priority as our normal students. In Week 8 of each Block, students are given the opportunity to change their courses for the upcoming block or request courses from other faculties.
