Changes at UB Zernike (update)

06 August 2025

Updated message

Starting September 1, 2025, several changes will take place at the UB Zernike library location.

Collection relocation

Starting September 1, the collection at UB Zernike will no longer be available on location. This concerns the Economics and Business, Spatial Sciences, and Science and Engineering collections, with the exception of compulsory literature. The materials will be moved to the closed stacks and can be requested via SmartCat.

The collection relocation will take place from August 25-28 and September 1-2. During this period, the collection will be temporarily unavailable. We will do our utmost to complete the relocation as quickly as possible, so you will only miss the materials for a short time.

In the lead-up to the relocation, preparations will be made. As a result, books may temporarily be located elsewhere. Please feel free to ask UB staff for help if you cannot find something.

Compulsory literature
Compulsory literature for lectures will remain available at UB Zernike. This will be placed in the current instruction room. Please note: access to this room is only possible with a UG card via the card reader on the door.

Self-service
Requested books can, as now, be collected and returned at UB Zernike. From 1 September, this will be done via a self-service device in the instruction room: UB Zernike Self-Service. You will also need your UG card for this.

Library Support Desk
Also, starting September 1, there will no longer be desk service (Library Support Desk) at UB Zernike. Do you have questions or need assistance? Please contact us via library@rug.nl or 050-3635020.

Study places
Study places will remain available during the relocation and afterwards. We will do our best to minimize disruption during the relocation.

Questions?
The changes at UB Zernike are a joint decision by the faculties of Economics and Business, Spatial Sciences, and Science and Engineering, and the University Library Groningen. They are necessary to deploy our resources more effectively. Do you have questions? Please feel free to contact Pieter van Wingerden from the UB.
