New funding cycle for Open Access Book Fund (2025-2027)
The University of Groningen launches the second funding cycle of the open access book fund. UG- or UMCG-affiliated authors can apply for funding the publication of their monograph or edited volume.
This funding instrument aims to stimulate the publication of open access academic books. The fund can be used to pay for the open access fee, also known as Book Processing Charge (BPC). The maximum reimbursement is 5,000 Euros per publication.
Key changes from previous funding cycle (2022-2023)
-
Each participating faculty has its own budget.
-
Maximum reimbursement: € 5,000 (incl. VAT) per book.
-
Delayed open access is not eligible.
-
Limit of one application per author per funding cycle (2025-2027).
-
Applicants with a research grant from an external funder (NWO, EU funding, etc.) are not eligible.
-
Publishers are required to submit a cost breakdown to justify the BPC price.
-
Books have to be published within one year from the book fund application.
The Open Access support team is here to help and advise you with regard to book contract negotiations. If you have any questions and require assistance, please contact us at openaccess rug.nl.
The first funding cycle ran from 2022-2023 and contributed to the publication of 47 open access books.
