What do we know about the insect world? And what does biodiversity look like? Visit the University Library (UB) and get a glimpse into the special world of insects through the lens of macro photographer Joris Vegter.
Biodiversity loss
Not only do most people know little about insects, due to biodiversity loss, we also see fewer insects than before. And unknown, makes unloved. With this exhibition, we want to show the unknown, but exceptionally special world that is hidden in our own ‘backyard’.
What can you expect?
The exhibition consists of more than just photos throughout the building, there is also a Green Library on the 2nd floor with various works on biodiversity and insects, from fiction and poetry to popular science books. You can also see the list of related ebooks on the Curated List Library Guide.
We also asked UG scientists Elzemiek Geuverink and Michella Ligtelijn to tell us something about their research into insects and the observations they make on the Zernike Campus and the Frisian meadows.
Opening
On Friday 16 May, the UB will celebrate its 410th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the UB will open its doors for an Open Afternoon. The opening of the exhibition will be part of the programme. The opening starts at 15:30 in the Tammes Room on the 4th floor. You are most welcome to attend!
The exhibition ‘Buiten/aards leven’ is a collaboration between the Green Office, the University Library and the University Museum.
