The Collective Landscape (2018-2022) started as a collaboration of photographer Eddo Hartmann with the University of Groningen (UG) and the Noorderlicht Foundation for the Imaging Science series. Hartmann documented the research of several professors investigating landscape, nature, agriculture, and ecosystems. The project continued with collaborations with several institutes like the Wageningen University Research and the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ).
Hartmann started documenting scientific fieldwork on natural ecosystems in the Netherlands. The project was inspired by the “Collective Landscape” concept defined by the British landscape architect Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe. This designer was fascinated by how garden and landscape design can interact with many other disciplines and saw the landscape as humanity’s common art form. This project emphasizes this aspect by placing additional lighting in collaboration with the scientists conducting field research at these locations.
Eddo Hartmann's photos are displayed on all floors, in the stairwell of the UB.
The Collection Landscape is co-funded by The Ubbo Emmius Fund, which supports researchers at the UG.
