Want to request free articles/books from other libraries more easily?

21 January 2019
SmartCat

Do you sometimes request articles or books from another library? This has become much simpler!

What has changed?

Earlier, you had to complete a web form to place a request for a book from another library, but now you can place your request in SmartCat via the button: Request from another library. You do not have to fill in anything.

How does it work exactly?

Articles:

1.   Go to PubMed (or one of our other databases , or Google Scholar *)
If you open another database via the Central Medical Library
www.rug.nl/cmb or via this link PubMed , you will see the red Get it! button under each article.

2.   Click on Get it!
Click on ‘Get it!’ and you will be able to see in SmartCat whether the article is included in our collection.

3.   Click on Request from another library.
If the article is not included in our collection, you can click the button ‘Request from another library’ to place this request.

4.   Log in with your UMCG or student account
You can log in as usual with your UMCG account via the Single Sign-On (UMCG e-mail address and password).

* Are you using Google Scholar and do you want to check whether a certain article is also included in our collection? Activate Get it! Go to Google Scholars menu > Settings > Library Links, and select: University of Groningen Library – Get It!

Books:

1.   Find the book in SmartCat

2.   Click on Request from another library.
Please note that this button only appears when the book is not available at the CMB or UB.

3.   Log in with your UMCG account or student account
You can log in as usual with your UMCG account (Single Sign-On). You can indicate whether you would like to collect your book from the CMB, the UB City Centre or the UB Zernike.

The rates will also change as per 28 January, which is part of a six-month pilot project.
