For the University Library Service Desk, NEXT Career Services is looking for:

PART-TIME DESK OFFICERS

Job description  
All desk officers together form a ‘student pool’ that independently runs the NEXT Service Desk. Students are worked into the interesting, strongly developing NEXT environment throughout the year. NEXT is looking for students (third-year Bachelor’s or Master’s) who are available about 8 hours a week on an on-call basis for at least one year to perform the following duties:

  • Answering general questions from University of Groningen students about careers services in general and the range of NEXT training courses in particular.
  • Checking CVs and application letters written by University of Groningen students who visit the NEXT Service Desk.
  • Referring students to the right careers (or study careers) advisor, faculty or organization.
  • Administrative tasks, such as taking minutes, processing data, replying to e-mails and managing appointments.          
  • Assisting in careers events, such as fairs, information markets, workshops and seminars.
  • Keeping the NEXT working environment neat and tidy.

Job profile

  • Third-year University Bachelor’s or Master’s student in any subject
  • Knowledge of and/or an interest in careers guidance, marketing and the job market
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Oracle planner
  • Experience with social media (Facebook and Twitter)
  • Preferably a relevant student network inside and outside the University of Groningen
  • Flexible, stress resistant and a pro-active attitude
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • A planner, networker, team player and organizer.

The University of Groningen aims to provide its students with the best possible development opportunities in preparation for their future careers. NEXT Career Services organizes a variety of activities that aim to help students make choices (including study choices) and prepare them for the job market. In order to achieve this, NEXT works actively with faculties, study associations, alumni organizations and other providers in the field of careers services. NEXT is located in the University Library, on the first floor. This is where various activities for students are organized, including open office hours, workshops and CV checks.
