Poor guideline adherence in the initiation of antidepressant treatment in children and adolescents in the Netherlands
Doctors adhere poorly to the Dutch guideline for prescribing antidepressants to children and teenagers with depression. Less than one in five youngsters gets the recommended remedy prescribed at the start of the medication. The prescribed dose often is higher than recommended: more than half of the teenagers received the initial dose of an adult. This is revealed by research of the Department of Psychiatry at the University Medical Center Groningen and the Groningen Research institute of Pharmacy (research group PharmacoEpidemiology & PharmacoEconomics) of the University of Groningen. An article on this research was published in the journal European Child & Adolescent Psychiatry:
Poor guideline adherence in the initiation of antidepressant treatment in children and adolescents in the Netherlands: choice of antidepressant and dose.
