The existing fields of research of the Arctic Centre include archaeological, anthropological and inclusive research on and with Indigenous peoples (particularly the Inuit and Sámi culture), the history of the exploration of the Polar Regions, related cultural heritage, developments in and regulation of polar tourism, effects of climate change on Arctic flora and fauna, accumulation of pollutants, such as mercury and plastics, and international governance of the polar regions. There is much collaboration on these topics within the Arctic Centre, as well as with other Dutch and foreign experts.
Research of the Arctic Centre is part of Rudolph Agricola School for sustainable development of the University of Groningen.
