During your stay

At the start of your exchange

1. You are invited to attend the University of Groningen Welcoming Ceremony for international students on the Thursday preceding the start of the semester.

2. Attend the Spatial Sciences Acquaintance & Introduction session (compulsory) on Friday 1 September 2023 (first semester) or Friday 2 February 2024 (second semester).

3. Go to ‘Register residential address during the mobility’ in Mobility Online and fill in your address in the Netherlands.

4. Register with the City Hall

5. Make yourself familiar with the student support infrastructure at the university of Groningen:

6. Familiarize yourself with the information in the electronic learning environment for each course that you are enrolled in. You can find the Brightspace pages of your courses in the ‘My courses’ section (please note that this may only be available a few days before the course starts).

7. Make sure to always read e-mails sent to your UG e-mail account. Go to http://googleapps.rug.nl to log in to your @student.rug.nl account.

8. Use the schedule generator to find out when the lectures and exams for your courses take place. The timetable for the course ‘Spatial Problems and Spatial Policies; the Dutch experience’ can be found by searching for course GESPSP1 (semester 1) or GESPSP2 (semester 2). It is possible to export your timetable to your own calendar with iCal.

9. Always discuss changes in your course selection with the exchange coordinator. If your changes can be approved, you need to do the following: 

  • Students in the Erasmus+ programme:

    Change your digital Learning Agreement in the mobility system of your home university.

  • Students from partner universities outside Europe and in the UK (Marco Polo programme):
    1. Go to ‘Do you have course changes?’ in Mobility Online. Answer ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Would you like to change your Learning Agreement?’

    2. Go to ‘Complete courses for the Learning Agreement (during the mobility)' and delete and/or add courses.

    3. Complete the step ‘Submit Learning Agreement (during the mobility)’.

    4. As soon as your course changes have been approved, you will receive an email explaining you what to do next.

10. Information about getting a bike and learning to bike safely.

11. Register with a General Practioner (GP).

At the end of your exchange

1. Deregister from the City Hall

2. As soon as all your grades have been published in ProgressWWW, you can request your Transcript of Records by sending an email to exchange.fss@rug.nl. We will email your Transcript of Records to you and your home university.
