Compulsory literature/Course reserves

Access to the right literature is essential when preparing for (working) lectures. Within the UG, compulsory and recommended literature is carefully selected and made available via the UB.
Below you will find information on the purchase and availability of literature for classes, including e-textbooks, course reserves and additional publications.
Information for teachers
Compulsory literature
Mandatory and recommended literature is purchased based on information from the Ocasys teaching catalogue. You do not need to submit a request for this. If you have any questions about Ocasys, please contact your secretariat or the Ocasys coordinator at your faculty.
E-textbooks
The UB is very reluctant to purchase e-textbooks for use in education. The prices of e-textbooks are very high compared to other e-books and printed books, and the options for use are limited. In addition, e-textbooks are often only suitable for a small group and for limited duration.
Collection specialists offer support in finding usable alternatives to e-books available in their own collection or open access. Want to prescribe an e-book for a lecture? Then contact one of the collection specialists. They can inform you about the possibilities.
Acquisition suggestions
Would you like to recommend another publication for inclusion in the library's collection? Please use acquisition suggestion form.
Course reserves
As a lecturer, you can reserve publications for a seminar in the course reserve in the UB City Centre (maximum of 100 titles per class). Publications may be out on loan; therefore we ask you to request the desired literature at least 5 weeks in advance via the webform.
For questions, please contact us via wcm-bibliotheek rug.nl
Search in Smartcat
Use SmartCat to find and access the publications you need.
Information for students
Where can I find the publication I am looking for?
Through SmartCat you can find all publications held by the UB. Online publications can be consulted directly. Printed materials can be found on the open shelves or can be requested via SmartCat
Course reserves
On the course reserve shelves you will find literature provided by lecturers for the classes. You will find the course reserve on the 1st floor of the UB City Centre. These publications are not for loan and can only be used within the UB City Centre so that everyone can consult them. If necessary, you can use the photocopier on the same floor.
