How can I use my ORCID iD?

orcid

Once you have your ORCID iD, you can allow systems and platforms you trust (Pure, publishers, research databases, etc.) to update your ORCID page automatically. This saves time and prevents errors. Next, you need to start using your ORCID iD in your research activities.

Use your iD in the research workflow.

Use your ORCID iD in your research activities: when you submit a manuscript for publication, a grant application, peer review activities or membership of organisations. This will ensure that you receive recognition for your work.

In addition, include your iD with a link to your ORCID page in your CV, email signature or on your personal website. This saves you time and increases your visibility. Find out more.

Add a validated affiliation.

You can add your affiliation manually to your ORCID page, by selecting "Add employment" under the heading "Employment".

Select "University of Groningen" from the list of organizations. The UG now appears with a correct organizational identifier on your ORCID page.

You can also mention your Department (faculty or institute) and add your Role or title. You can create different affiliation fields in case you have more than one affiliation.

Have your publication list updated automatically.

Via the Search & Link option in your ORCID page, you can authorise Crossref and/or DataCite - the main suppliers of DOIs of research publications - to automatically update your publication list. Often the article will appear in your ORCID page even before publication. You facilitate this by logging in with your ORCID iD when submitting an article on the publisher's website.

In addition, you can give large research databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed and the MLA International Bibliography access to your ORCID page and allow them to update it automatically.

If you have added your ORCID iD to your Pure account, your ORCID page will automatically be filled with your research output from Pure and kept up to date. You can also import research output from your ORCID page to your Pure profile by enabling Automated Search.

Add grants, other IDs and existing profiles.

Via UberResearch Search & Link it is possible to have information about your grants from e.g. NWO or the ERC automatically updated in your ORCID page. You can also link your existing research profiles (ResearcherID, ScopusID) to your iD.
