PLOS negotiations may affect your article submissions
The University of Groningen (UG) and the UMCG participate in a national open access agreement with publisher PLOS. The current contract has been in effect since January 2025 and runs through 31 December 2026.
Dutch universities are embarking on negotiations with PLOS regarding the extension or discontinuation of this agreement. Depending on the outcome, there may be implications for authors publishing with PLOS. If the agreement is not renewed, authors will be required to cover the applicable article processing charges (APCs) themselves for articles accepted after the end date of the agreement. Please note that eligibility is determined by the article's acceptance date, not its submission date.
If you are planning to submit to a PLOS journal, or have a submission already in progress, we recommend contacting the UG or UMCG Open Access team to ensure you have the latest information.
The current agreement applies to nine journals. All publication types are covered under the agreement.
