The UB on Mastodon - embracing open science communication and digital autonomy
In October 2023, the University of Groningen Library (UB) made the decision to leave X (formerly Twitter) and fully transition to Mastodon, a decentralized, non-commercial social media platform.
We believe that supporting academic staff at the University of Groningen and beyond in their open research and teaching practices requires a credible communication approach that ensures digital autonomy and self-determination. This prompted our decision to switch to an alternative social media platform that better aligns with academic values and the pursuit of knowledge.
