From the 2026-2027 academic year onwards, Career Services will be charging a small fee for certain services. Below, you can find out which activities this applies to, which organisations/departments are excluded, and what these fees are.
These fees apply to organisations looking to use our services as a part of their own event, activity or programme. As an individual student, you will never be required to pay for the services we provide.

About these fees
For our activities, we charge a rate of €35 per hour per Career Services staff member for parties/organisations managed or funded by the University of Groningen. For external parties, the rate is double this amount.
This covers not only the hours we are actually present at the event venue, but also any possible travel time and preparation time. Please also bear in mind that, depending on the scale and nature of the event, we may in some cases schedule two or more staff members to guarantee the quality of our work remains up to standard throughout.
An exception to the above is the photo booth. For this, we charge a standard flat rate of €150 (€300 for external parties) for the first two hours, including setting up and dismantling the studio and post-processing/sending the photos taken. For each hour beyond these two hours, we charge the standard hourly rate per staff member.
As part of an educational organisation, we do not charge VAT.
Free
-
Workshops and activities offered as part of the curriculum of regular degree programmes/career minors
-
Workshops, training sessions, assessments and photo booths requested by career officers as part of a faculty-based career event, such as a Career Day or Career Fair
Paid
-
Workshops, checks and photo booths requested as part of an event organised by a study association
-
Workshops, checks and photo booths requested as part of an event organised by a faculty other than a career-related activity, such as an Open Day or a symposium. It is up to Career Services to determine whether or not an event qualifies as a career-related activity.
Exceptions
-
Applications relating to events or activities organised in collaboration with a UG faculty or career officer may be exempt from the fee, provided that this is requested by the relevant faculty or faculty staff member.
-
Generally speaking, we do not accept applications for events or activities not (primarily) aimed at University of Groningen students. Examples include activities for University of Groningen staff, commercial job fairs, or other events organised by organisations in which non-students also participate.
Why these fees?
Until the summer of 2026, we offered our services free of charge to all parties that are part of or directly affiliated with the University of Groningen. However, like all departments and services, Career Services is facing budget cuts and a reduction in staff. This also affects our training capacity and our ability to deliver workshops and services, meaning that we will be focusing our time and resources more strictly on our core tasks: delivering workshops and offering services to University of Groningen students through our own programmes, at UG career events or within faculty teaching programmes. Unfortunately, this is a necessary step in order to keep the workload manageable and to ensure that our primary target group is served as effectively as possible.
Do you have any further questions regarding these rates? Would you like a more detailed breakdown of the costs? Or would you like to book us for an event? You’re always more than welcome to send us an e-mail.
