A quick look back at the first semester

Can you all believe we are past the first semester already? Time sure is flying. The Career Services has been through a lot of changes in these last few months of which you will find a small overview here.

New student pool

Just before the summer holidays the Career Services were still very busy with interviewing students for the student pool of 2016-2017.  And here they are together with the staff of the Career Services! In August our student pool received training to further strengthen their skills in helping you with your cv, cover letter, LinkedIn profile and other career-related questions. You will find them at the I-shop, various open days and events or giving workshops. Besides this they each have projects they work on like organizing seminars, internationalization or entrepreneurship. Read more about our team.

Opening of the I-Shop

Another big change this year was our move from the University Library to the I-Shop at Oude Kijk in ‘t Jatstraat 19. During September & October we had our very own Pop-Up Career Services next to the Academy Building while the I-Shop was being renovated. On November 3rd, the I-Shop was officially opened.  Rector Magnificus Elmer Sterken gave a speech and talented members of our student pool were modelling the new sustainable clothing line of the RUG. Check our blog for a quick recap!

Career Day FMNS

Each year, the Career Services of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences organizes a career day filled with workshops, cv-checks, seminars and information. The Career Services were present to provide cv-checks and workshops. The event was very busy and our team had a very good time meeting you all and helping with your questions. (PS. We thought the lunch was great, thanks!).

Falling Walls Groningen

The Career Services and Honours College have collaborated for a third time to organize Falling Walls Lab Groningen. Participants (BA-, MA-Students, PhD candidates and entrepreneurs) have three minutes to share how they created falling walls with their innovative ideas.

This year’s winner Toine Wilke with his idea of ‘breaking the wall of our unearthly food-system’ went to Berlin to participate in the International Falling Walls Finals in Berlin.

Meeting with Careers Company (FEB)

To hit off the new year the Career Services and Student Service Centre had a very interesting meet-up with the Careers Company of the Faculty of Economics and Business. We talked about different projects we have going on and how we could work together and improve. We would like to thank the Careers Company for giving us such a warm welcome and are looking forward to collaboration in the future!

Daily Routine

Next to all our events and activities we are at the I-Shop five days a week to help and advise you with your career. Providing CV-checks, checking motivation letters and advising on LinkedIn is part of our daily routine. We also have career counselors, job agencies and other instances visiting the I-shop once or twice a week for tailored and in-depth advice. Follow us on Facebook to keep up to date with the weekly happenings at the I Shop!
