The department of Genetics is part of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) and is involved in a broad spectrum of activities:

• clinical genetics and diagnostics.
• teaching of undergraduate students and training of clinical fellows.
• an extensive research program with strong interest in heart diseases, colon cancer, intestinal disorders and neurodegenerative diseases.
• hosting a genomics facility to facilitate large-scale genetic studies.
• European surveillance of congenital anomalies (Eurocat).
