Curriculum Vitae and Publications

Marcel J. Broersma (1973) is professor of Journalism Studies and Media at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. At the Journalism Department he co-directs the MA Program in Journalism and he is director of studies of the international MA in journalism. His research interests focus on the innovation and diffusion of forms and styles of journalism, on political communication, and on local and regional journalism. He has published widely on both the history and current development of journalism in the Netherlands and comparatively.

In 2007 Broersma received a prestigious VIDI-grant of the Netherlands Organisation of Scientific Research. He is currently directing the research project “Reporting at the Boundaries of the Public Sphere. Form, Style and Strategy of European Journalism, 1880-2005” (see: Projects).

Broersma holds an MA degree in History and Journalism, and a PhD from the University of Groningen (2002; cum laude). He is a member of the Dutch Press Council and the scientific advisory committee of the Daily Newspaper Digitisation Project of the Dutch Royal Library, and he is a member of the editorial board of the Dutch Journal for Media History (TMG) .
